The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has extended the deadline for public submissions on the Information Memorandum (IM) on the authority’s intention to initiate the second phase of the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) licensing process.

Stakeholders now have until September 30 to submit written representations. The initial deadline was September 19.

“The change is in response to requests from some stakeholders, and it allows everyone to engage the IM and make meaningful contributions. The IM seeks input from interested stakeholders on the IMT radio frequency spectrum bands to be considered by the authority during the second phase of the IMT licencing process,” Icasa said in a statement.

“The second phase of the IMT spectrum licencing process will provide licensees with additional capacity to meet the ongoing demand for capacity growth in mobile services.”

No further extension shall be granted.
