The project is located at the voestalpine site, in Linz, Austria.

H2FUTURE, comprising voestalpine, Siemens, Verbund and Austrian Power Grid, together with research partners K1-MET and ECN.

Project Description
The project entails the construction of the world’s largest pilot plant for the production of ‘green’, or carbon dioxide free, hydrogen.

With a capacity of 6 MW, the plant will be the most cost effective and advanced plant of its type, producing 1 200 m3/h of green hydrogen.

The facility will be used to research future breakthrough technologies, which are needed to meet global climate goals over the long term.

Duration
The plant is scheduled to be fully operational by 2019.

Latest Developments
After the launch of the project at the beginning of 2017, construction of the pilot facility has accelerated. 

The foundations are in place and construction of the hall is under way.

The core electrolysis components will be delivered during the summer, with the plant going live within a year. 

The start of the comprehensive test programme is planned for 2019.
