Woodside Energy will responsible for the evaluation of green ammonia production using hydroelectricity and the assessment of the required Australian and Tasmanian approvals and permits.
IHI Corporation will be responsible for evaluating green ammonia production, storage and loading facilities, in Australia, and ammonia storage and unloading facilities, in Japan.
Marubeni Corporation will be responsible for evaluating the shipping, logistics and transportation costs of green ammonia and market studies in Japan and other countries in Asia.
Project Description
Woodside Energy, IHI Corporation and Marubeni Corporation are investigating the production and export of green ammonia produced from hydropower. Green ammonia, produced from green hydrogen, is a zero-emission fuel that can be used to decarbonise coal-fired power production, among other applications.
Initially, green ammonia will be produced at a small-scale hydrogen electrolysis plant.
The capacity of the proposed plant could eventually be scaled up to as much as 250 MW to produce green hydrogen as feedstock for green ammonia exports.
