Established in 1987, project services corporation Hydra Arc Group comprises associated companies that operate primarily in the petrochemicals, construction, mining and power generation industries.

The companies that constitute Hydra Arc specialise in the fabrication of pressure vessels and piping, construction, refinery maintenance, specialised labour and training, and the supply of tooling and equipment.

The group’s main equipment includes a double-column horizontal boring mill, a vertical machining centre, a bridge-type machine centre and two postweld heat treatment ovens – the first, a 70 m × 10 m oven, has a temperature that goes up to 750 °C, while the second is a 15 m × 6 m oven with a temperature that goes up to 950 °C.

Meanwhile, Hydra Arc’s Bay 4 fabrication facility features an overhead crane with a lifting capacity of 1 500 t and a 19 m underhook. It also features five plate rollers with varying rolling capacities from 6 mm to 150 mm, a 1 250 t bend press, which can accommodate plate widths of up to 6.5 m, and specialised welding booms and rollers, designed and manufactured by Hydra Arc’s Sky Hill workshop complex for the fabrication of large pressure vessels.

Currently, the Level 2 BBBEE company is conducting assembly and fabrication work for petrochemicals major Sasol’s Coal Tar Filtration East project and is about to start fabricating four stabilisation drums for Sasol Secunda. Hydra Arc is also also fabricating water tanks at local government level for water supply in several rural areas countrywide.

Located in Secunda, Mpumalanga, the group’s site area comprises 100 000 m2, 75 000 m2 of which is under cover. Hydra Arc boasts a staff complement of 1 900.
