Name of the Project
Hunter power project.

Location
At the old Kurri Kurri aluminium smelter site in the Hunter region of New South Wales, in Australia.

Project Owner/s
Snowy Hydro.

Project Description
The proposed project will fill the void in electricity demand and ensure security of supply following the retirement of the Liddell power station, in Muswellbrook.

The business case requires the construction of a 660 MW plant using two high-efficiency, hydrogen-ready industrial units.

The open-cycle gas turbines will initially be capable of running on up to 10% hydrogen and, with some minor additional investment, they will be capable of up to 30%, subject to fuel logistics.

The project includes the construction and operation of a power station and electrical switchyard, as well as other associated fuel gas and diesel supply assets.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to support up to 600 direct jobs at peak construction and 1 200 indirect jobs across New South Wales.

Capital Expenditure
The New South Wales government is providing up to A$600-million in equity to support the construction of the project.

Planned Start/End Date
The power plant will come online in 2023.

Latest Developments
The New South Wales government has awarded Snowy Hydro environmental approval for the construction of the Hunter power project.
