HUNGRY DRAGON

The Chinese dragon is reportedly still keen to devour more of the stressed assets sprawled across South Africa’s headgear country. Proposals by Chinese investors to buy marginal South African precious metals and mineral assets are popping up regularly but few are more visible currently than Heaven-Sent Capital’s hearty gobbling of Village Main Reef. MoneyWeb reported recently that the Chinese private equity firm’s acquisitive appetite has not been satisfied by taking over the gold and platinum Village, which in delisted form is now reheaded by Marius Saaiman, who had a go at running it prior to its privatisation. Heaven-Sent’s outbound departmental principal, Jeff Dong, has been quoted as saying that Village is the first morsel in the Chinese company’s search for more gold, platinum, diamond and other South African food, with energy and jewellery, for example, also potentially of interest.
