Name of the Project
HPA First Project.

Location
New South Wales, Australia.

Client
Collerina Cobalt.

Project Description
A prefeasibility study (PFS) has delivered a compelling business case for the HPA First Project.

The project entails the application of Collerina’s licensed proprietary solvent extraction and refining technology to produce high-purity alumina (HPA) from an industrial feedstock.

The HPA First process is simpler than the original process flowsheet considered for the project, and does not require the development of a mining operation or associated acid plant, leach vessels, filtration plant, neutralisation circuits or tailings facilities.

The project will be able to sustain a production rate of 10 200 t/y HPA.

Potential Job Creation
Not stated.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The project has a payback of less than two years.

Value
The project is expected to cost about A$215-million to implement.

Duration
The project development and commissioning schedule includes a two-year construction period. For the purposes of the PFS, it has been assumed that the project will start construction in 2019, with initial commissioning expected in late 2021.

Latest Developments
Collerina has committed to immediately transition to a higher-confidence definitive feasibility study (DFS) to position the company to make a final investment decision.

The DFS is expected to be based on a pilot-scale processing plant, which will be built and run within Collerina’s Brisbane premises.

The pilot plant equipment has been drafted and orders placed for several long-lead items. The plant is scheduled to run from March to May 2019.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Licensor and Pridentia (testwork development and process flowsheet); Prudentia (process engineering and design, site and surrounding infrastructure, cost estimates); Collerina/AECOM (environmental and community studies); Collerina/CRU (marketing); Prudentia, Licensor/Collerina (risk assessment).

On Budget and on Time?
Too early to state.
