White goods and consumer-electronics company Hisense’s Cape Town manufacturing facility was now serving the sub-Saharan African market, supplying products to Madagascar, Ghana and the Seychelles.

Hisense announced this week that the facility, which was opened in June 2013, would play a “pivotal part” in providing these countries with high-quality products at competitive prices.

“We see the potential to extend our footprint into the surrounding countries and are confident that the plant in Cape Town will allow us to capture market share in regions where the gross domestic product growth rates are at much higher rates than South Africa, albeit from a much lower base,” commented Hisense SA deputy GM Ebrahim Khan.

The first containers with products destined for these markets left the Cape Town plant on June 2.

The factory has the capacity to produce 400 000 televisions and refrigerators a year.
