PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Hazelwood Resources has produced its first ferrotungsten metal from its ATC project, in Vietnam.

Following the construction of the project in 2011/12, Hazelwood’s subsidiary Asia Tungsten Products finalised the preparations for production by securing all the necessary raw materials and inventories over the past month, which resulted in the start of the hot commissioning phase.

First metal production occurred within the hot commissioning schedule, the company said on Friday, adding that first sales revenue was expected during April.

Ferrotungsten produced from the ATC project would be distributed through a sales agency agreement with Wogen Resources.

Stage 1 of the ATC plant had a nameplate capacity of 4 000 t/y of ferrotungsten alloy, equivalent to 3 000 t/y of contained tungsten. A second stage, if completed, would have sufficient capacity to supply around 25% of the world’s ferrotungsten.
