Location
The project is located 40 km north-east of Ras Ghareb, in Egypt.

Project Owner/s
Red Sea Wind Energy, comprising Engie Energie Services, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation Consortium, and Orascom Construction.

Project Description
The project will be one of the biggest privately developed utility-scale wind power plants in Egypt and will support the country in increasing its renewable-energy capacity.

The project entails the installation of one-hundred and seventy-three 2.9 MW turbines, and supporting infrastructure. 

The wind farm will connect to the national grid through a 35 km 220 kV transmission line. This line will connect to an existing substation and, in turn, export electricity through a 500 kV line, which will be installed and operated by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company. 

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to require about 1 600 workers at the peak of construction and 40 during operations. 

Capital Expenditure
The project is estimated at €474-million, of which the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development will finance €42-million.
