PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Magnetite miner Grange Resources on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to the Southdown project, in Western Australia, denying speculation that it had not taken a decision to shelve the project.

In November last year, Grange announced that it would “significantly reduce” spending on its 70%-held project, spending only A$2.5-million during 2013 and reducing the project management team from 24 to 6.

The ASX-listed Grange told shareholders on Wednesday that all tenements, permits and project assets at Southdown would continue to be maintained in good order, and added that the company was in the process of seeking an equity partner for a strategic share of Grange’s interest in the project.

The A$2.8-billion Southdown project is jointly owned by Grange and Japan’s Sojitz Resources and Technology Australia, which holds a 30% interest.

Meanwhile, Grange this week announced that it would be closing down its Perth office during June this year, with all remaining Perth-based functions relocating to the company’s Tasmania office.

As a result of the restructure, MD Richard Mehan would resigned from the company, effective from June 4.

The company’s COO Wayne Bould has been appointed as Mehan’s replacement. He has over 40 years of practical and managerial experience in the petroleum, forestry and mining sectors.

Bould has been with Grange since 2008.
