Goscor Access Rental (GAR) has appointed industry stalwart Alan Will as Kwazulu-Natal Branch Manager, based in Westmead, to oversee expansion in one of the company’s highest-growth areas in South Africa at present.

Alan brings 28 years’ experience to bear on his high-profile new role, of which 22 years were dedicated to the materials-handling industry in the form of forklifts of all makes and models. This includes petrol, diesel IC, electrical, and LPG machinery.

His experience to date includes a lengthy stint in the material handling industry. He progressed from Field Service Technician to Product Support, Key Accounts Manager and ultimately National Service Manager. Here he managed important clients such as Sasol, Shatterprufe (Garankuwa), Spoornet, Warman Africa, Eskom, Weir Minerals, and Telkom, among others.

Alan cut his teeth as a Field Service Technician at Barlow Handling in Richards Bay, working mainly on forklifts. He was also Mechanical Workshop Manager at Truck Corp Coastal Motors, managing the service and repair of cars and diesel trucks.

As KwaZulu-Natal Branch Manager, Alan is in charge of the daily operations and smooth running of all departments, as well as realising the company’s longer-term strategic goals. “My ultimate aim is to grow the business to the point where we have a large enough customer base to open up another branch in the region,” he reveals.

Alan comments that the access-rental market in KwaZulu-Natal is booming at present, especially in highly industrialised nodes such as Richards Bay. “Obviously it is how you target this market that creates success. There are always developments and opportunities, but you have to be proactive in making these happen.”
He describes his leadership style as being hands-on, and realising the full strength and potential of each and every team member, both above and below him.

“This focus on teamwork is what continues to give GAR the leading edge in terms of customer service and support,” he concludes.
