Project Description
The GHAVP plant, located in Haryana state, is expected to be completed in two phases, with each phase comprising the establishment of two 700-MW-capacity, indigenously designed pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWRs). The PHWRs are equipped with a combination of active and passive safety features. These include two independent, diverse and fast-acting shutdown systems, emergency core cooling using passive accumulators and an active pumping system, as well as a double containment with steel lining on the inner face of the inner containment.

Value
The cost of the first phase is estimated at $3.4-billion.

Duration
The completion of the first nuclear reactor is envisaged within 63 months from the first pour of concrete in June 2015. The second unit will follow six months later, with both units expected to start operating by 2021.

The foundation stone of the GHAVP power plant was laid on January 14, 2014.
