JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed gold producer Goldplat on Wednesday announced that executive director Hansie van Vreden had been appointed COO of the company with immediate effect.

Van Vreden, who was previously the MD of Goldplat’s South African and Ghanaian gold recovery operations and was appointed executive director in December, was replacing former Goldplat COO Dr Robert Pitts, who retired from the board on December 31.

“Van Vreden’s appointment as COO reinforces the company's strategy of succession planning and strengthening its team as it continues to build on its position as the market leader of gold recovery in Africa,” the gold miner said in a statement on Wednesday.

Goldplat CEO Ian Visagie thanked Pitts for his service to the company and stated that Van Vreden’s new status as COO reflected that he had become an invaluable member of the group.

“In his role as MD of both our gold recovery operations, [Van Vreden] has already gained an invaluable understanding of the company's operations and, with this expertise, I am confident that he will continue to help our company grow," Visagie said.
