African independent power producer Globeleq has appointed Gionata Visconti COO, effective early in January next year.

He will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s operations and provide support for in-country governance work and asset management.

As a member of the executive management team, Visconti will also play a role in the development and execution of Globeleq’s operational and strategic initiatives.

Visconti has worked for ContourGlobal, where he managed a diversified asset fleet across various thermal and renewable technologies in Africa, as well as for power sources manufacturer Wärtsilä and capital equipment company Caterpillar.

He will be based in Cape Town.

Globeleq operates 1 400 MW of generation plants in 13 locations across five countries in Africa, with a further 300 MW under construction and more than 2 000 MW in the pipeline.
