Name and Location
Giza North gas-fired combined-cycle power project, Egypt.

Client
Cairo Electricity Production Company (CEPC).

Project Description
The proposed power plant will comprise three 750 MWe modules.

Each module will include three gas turbines, with a nominal electricity generating capacity of 250 MWe, and three heat recovery steam generators, feeding one steam generator with a nominal electricity generating capacity of 250 MWe for a total generating capacity of 2 250 MWe.

The power plant will use natural gas as its primary fuel and also it can operate using light fuel oil.

In addition, a small emergency generator operating on light fuel oil will be provided on site to drive key items of equipment in the power plant in the event of a power supply failure.

The power plant will incorporate a direct (once through) cooling system, using abstracted water from the El-Rayyah El-Beheiry. The abstracted water will also be used to provide process water make-up in the boiler system.

Canal water will be used as noncontact cooling water and for process water following desalination. The water will be pumped through a piping system running underground for water intake, while heated cooling water will be returned to the canal through a discharge piping system running underground and released almost on the verge of the canal bank.

The power from the plant will be sold to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.

Value
$764-million.

Duration
The first unit of the plant is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year.
