Gindalbie sets record shipments from Karara
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore miner Gindalbie Metals has shipped 2.4-million tonnes of ore during the three months to December, with total shipments through the Karara export terminal hitting a record annualised rate of 9.47-million tonnes a year during the quarter.
The miner said on Friday that the 39 shipments during the quarter consisted of 0.9-million tonnes of magnetite concentrate and 1.5-million tonnes of hematite direct shipping ore (DSO).
Some 829 000 t of hematite concentrate was produced at Karara during the quarter, along with 756 000 t of hematite DSO. Both magnetite and hematite production were up on the previous quarter, as the Karara project continued its ramp-up.
For the six months to June, Gindalbie was expecting to produce between 2.4-million and 2.7-million tonnes of hematite concentrate and between 1.6-million and 1.8-million tonnes of hematite DSO.
Meanwhile, the miner has assured shareholders that a technical review of the Karara operation was on track for completion during the March quarter. The review would outline a clear plan and timetable to achieve nameplate capacity.
The magnetite concentrator was expected to reach 75% of nameplate capacity by the end of March this year, following the completion of the tailings filter refurbishment programme and the construction of a temporary tailings facility.
Gindalbie has previously warned that the project would require additional capital investment to reach its capacity goals by March.
