Compressor station project, South Africa
Name and Location
Compressor station project, Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Project Description
The project will facilitate a 20% expansion of natural gas delivery from Mozambique to South Africa.
The gas compression station will be based at Komatipoort in South Africa and will increase gas delivery capacity from the current 120-million gigajoules a year to about 147-million gigajoules a year.
Two gas-turbine-driven compressor units, and ancillary equipment, will be used at Komatipoort to increase gas flow rates in the Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investment Company's (Rompco's) 865-km-long transborder pipeline that transports the natural gas from the Pande and Temane gas field in Mozambique to Sasol's operations at Secunda and Sasolburg, in South Africa.
The additional gas will be used as part of the first phase of a planned expansion of Sasol Synfuel's capacity at Secunda, expansion of Sasol Wax in Sasolburg, and sales to external industrial markets over the next few years.
Value
R1,1-billion.
Duration
Construction will start by mid-2008, with gas delivery expected by the end of 2009.
Client
Sasol (50%), iGas (25%) and Compania Mozambicana de Gasuduto (25%), as joint partners in Rompco.
Key Contracts and Suppliers
Foster Wheeler (engineering, procurement and construction management contract); Wetback Contracts (mechanical and piping contract); Kentz (electrical and instrumentation contract); Stefanutti Stocks (civil and earthworks contract); Siemens (main turbine driven compressor units); and Solar (gas turbine driven electrical generators).
