This article has been supplied.
Name and Location
Gara underground gold mine, Loulo mine, Mali.
Client
Randgold Resources’ 80%-owned subsidiary Société des Mines de Loulo.
Project Description
The Loulo mine consists of the Yalea and Loulo 3 openpits, as well as the Yalea and Gara underground mines.
The development of the Yalea and Gara underground gold mines includes the sinking of declines below the openpits and both operations have started mechanised long-hole open stoping.
The underground mines will extend the life-of-mine to 2031.
Value
The value of the project has not been disclosed.
Duration
Production ramp-up to about 100 000 t/m is expected from the first quarter of 2012.
Latest Developments
In the quarter ended September 30, 2013, a total of 2 335 m of development was completed and 199 264 t at 4.31 g/t were hauled to surface.
The project has completed 25 256 m of development to date and the declines have advanced to 2 603 m from surface at a vertical depth of 344 m.
Production at Gara decreased by 8% to 199 264 t in the quarter, from 217 544 t in the second quarter, slightly less than planned, owing to decreased availabilities of the loading and trucking fleet.
The Gara conveyor, which was expected to come on line in November this year, is expected to resolve the materials handling constraint.
