Name and Location
Galilee basin clean coal-fired power plant project, central Queensland, Australia.

Client
Galilee Power.

Project Description
The project is part of Waratah Coal’s $3.4-billion Alpha North coal project, which will be capable of producing 40-million tons a year of coal. The power station proposes to use waste coal from Waratah Coal’s tenements as power station feedstock.

Additionally, the project proposes the capture, transport and sequestration of the carbon dioxide and the use of integrated gasification combined-cycle technology.

The proposed power station will be a 900 MW clean coal-fired power station near Alpha, in Central Queensland.
Stage 1 will initially be developed to 450 MW, with a second 450 MW module to be added as demand increases.

Value
Initial investment is estimated at $1.25-billion.

Duration
Completion is scheduled for mid-2018.

Latest Developments
Waratah Coal is conducting early-stage scoping and feasibility studies for the project. The company expects to obtain all the necessary approvals by early 2016 and start work on the project by the middle of the year.
Parson Brinckerhoff is providing early-phase engineering and design consultation for the project. Waratah Coal will determine the technical configuration of the power plant based on the detailed design phase.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
