Canadian exploration and development company G2 Goldfields is continuing to operate in Guyana, with its OKO gold project unaffected by the escalating territorial dispute between Guyana and Venezuela over the Essequibo region.

The TSX-V listed explorer, whose management team was responsible for the discovery, construction and development of the $225-million Aurora gold mine in Guyana, states that it has five diamond drill rigs currently turning around the clock at OKO.

“G2 will continue to be a supportive international investor in Guyana,” the company says, noting in a statement that Guyana is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.

The government of Nicolas Maduro, through a recent referendum, has claimed sovereignty over the Essequibo territory, which accounts for about two-thirds of Guyana and lies near big offshore oil deposits.
