Based on the success of its participation at the 2014 Nampo Harvest Day event, engineering support services company Babcock, the exclusive distributor of Volvo and SDLG construction equipment in Southern Africa, will be exhibiting a range of machinery at this year’s show, especially showcasing the Volvo EC300DL tracked excavator.

Nampo will take place in Bothaville, in the Free State, from May 12 to 15.

“The machine offers an excellent operator environment with a comfortable seat, ideal-placed controls, excellent visibility and enough cab room,” says Babcock equipment sales director David Vaughan.

He emphasises that Volvo prides itself on producing fuel-efficient machines and the D-Series crawler excavators are a perfect example of this, adding that the excavator features Volvo’s smart electrohydraulic control to deliver reduced fuel consumption and cycle times, increased digging performance, as well as Volvo’s unique Eco mode, which contributes to up to 5% of the machine’s total increased fuel efficiency.

Other machines to be showcased include the Volvo BL61 and BL71 backhoe loaders. The design of these machines is the result of years of research into customers’ needs – delivering durability, power, quality and environmental care, says Vaughan.

“These machines offer better dig depths, breakout forces and operating capacities than virtually every competitive model in its price class,” he points out.

Two Volvo wheel loaders, the L120F and L90F, will complete the range being displayed on the stand, Vaughan adds.

“The L120F model represents power, speed and operator comfort, incorporating a new generation of Volvo HTE 200-transmission that delivers smoother shifting and lower fuel consumption, as well as a new and roomier Care Cab with improved all-round visibility and safety.

“The L90F is a suitable wheel loader for gravel pits, harbours, goods terminals, industries and logging yards, while the Volvo’s TP-linkage, attachment bracket and Volvo attachments make the flexible L90F even more of an all-rounder,” he explains.

The SDLG Range
Babcock’s SDLG range includes wheel loaders, graders and vibratory rollers. The SDLG machines are fitted with fuel-efficient Cummins or Deutz diesel engines and feature quiet, ergonomically designed cabs that are air-conditioned and ROPS/FOPS-certified, ensuring the range meets with internationally accepted safety standards, Vaughan adds.

“The SDLG range is ideal for the mining, construction, quarrying and agriculture industries, as this equipment is maintenance friendly and harnesses simple electronics. The units are trouble-free workhorses.”

Vaughan believes that a key reason for the company’s continued success with the SDLG range is that it offers a comprehensive after-sales service support structure in the local market for a value-add-brand product.
