PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed junior Forge Resources has been given environmental approval by the Western Australian state government for its Balla Balla export facility.

The proposed export facility would be located in Forestier Bay, midway between Port Hedland and Karratha, and would export up to six-million tonnes a year of ore from Forge’s Balla Balla mine, which is directly south-east of the proposed export facility.

The export facility would include a 7 km low-pressure slurry pipeline, an overland conveyor, a 2.6 km jetty and a barge loading wharf.

Forge said on Thursday that the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) had completed its assessment of the project in June this year, and had recommended that the state government approve the project.

During the week, the EPA had announced that the Minister for the Environment had approved the export facility.

“We are pleased to secure this key milestone to enable Forge to progress the Balla Balla export facility from concept to reality,” said MD Matthew James.

“Forge believes the proposed export facility will be a key strategic asset of the company in allowing the company to export iron-ore from such close proximity to the Balla Balla resource,” he added.

The Balla Balla magnetite, vanadium and titanium project currently has a Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource of 456-million tonnes, at 45% iron, 0.64% vanadium and 13.7% titanium.
