Focus on digital education in schools
Macrocomm Group are working with government to provide broad based digital education to learners
The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) is working with the private sector to roll out programmes that enable broad-based digital education in schools across the country.
Project Liberate envisions a Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) hub that focusses on education and development in technology with assistance offered by DCDT, led by Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni.
“With the support of the Department of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, we have started a Digital Hub and Computer Centre at the Dipimphonyana Tsa Lapeng children’s home, which is one such project that we are embarking on that supports our board-based digital outreach programme we are working on with Project Libertate, aimed at upskilling the youth in technology and promoting digital literacy. This will also be expanded to the youth in the Olievenhoutbosch community,” explained Macrocomm Group CEO Sivi Moodley.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Buti Manamela said at the inaugural opening of the Digital Hub and Computer Centre: “Government and the private sector should be building sustainable communities, by complementing existing infrastructure like Dipimphonyana Centre which already draws young people.”
“In addition to the facility, the Macrocomm Group will also be availing its subject matter experts in the fields of Internet of Things, platform and software development, artificial intelligence, machine learning and solutioning to provide hands-on training and coaching in these 4IR technology and application areas. We are proud to be associated and working so closely in digital education in South Africa,” added Moodley.
“We will continue to invest in projects that contribute to sustainable digital skills development as this will ensure that South Africa has the capability and capacity to support broad-based digital inclusion, economic participation and innovation, and we challenge others to follow in these efforts,” concluded Moodley.
