Fluor expands operations in Mozambique

Fluor Corporation recently established its Mozambique office in Maputo to support its current projects and its existing offices in the region. Fluor believes Mozambique will substantially grow its economy and human development in coming years. In line with this, Fluor's business is also rapidly growing in Mozambique.
“We want to meaningfully contribute to its development by supporting clients with engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance services,” said country manager, James Hughes. This office will support Fluor's projects across multiple industries including oil, gas and chemicals, infrastructure, industrial services, mining and minerals, as well as power. The services portfolio encompasses both large and small capex projects together with ongoing routine modifications, replacements and upgrades. “Fluor has a history of executing complex projects all over the world.” adds Hughes. “We believe by having a permanent project execution presence in the country, we also allow for opportunities in skills development, employment and national content.”
“Fluor’s history in Mozambique dates back to 1981 with a project feasibility study in the Inhambane Province. Later, Fluor helped to lead the development of the county's first significant Oil & Gas infrastructure projects in the 1990's.”
In addition, Fluor has already successfully trained more than 35 000 people in Southern Africa and offers training through an integrated approach to welding, rigging, mechanical fitting and boilermaking at various levels under the scope of Fluor’s accreditation and fields of expertise. “Mozambican dignitaries have recently visited the vocational Training Centre in Secunda, South Africa, and attended a presentation that contained a detailed training execution programme that can be implemented in Mozambique as training is central to Fluor’s operation in Mozambique. The group also opened a world-class operator training centre in Mozambique’s Tete province in 2013,” concludes Hughes.
In 2013, Fluor and JGC Corporation’s 50/50 joint venture, was awarded a front-end engineering and design contract by Anadarko Moçambique Area 1 Limitada for an onshore natural gas liquefaction facility in Mozambique. AMECO, a unit of Fluor, acquired ServiTrade, a Mozambique-based construction equipment rental and project services company in September 2012. ServiTrade provides project and fleet services solutions which includes, but is not limited to, fully operated and maintained construction equipment, heavy lifting solutions, tools, camp services, transportation, concrete batch plant services, operator 2. certification and fleet services to the infrastructure, mining, energy & chemicals, oil & gas and power segments as well as to large industrial and government customers.
