Flavian pumped-hydro and green hydrogen project.

Location
The proposed Central Queensland Renewable Energy Zone, in the Gladstone-Bundaberg area of Australia.

Project Owner/s
Sunshine Hydro and Energy Estate.

Project Description
This project will power local industry with renewable energy, and heavy trucks with green hydrogen, to help decarbonise the Queensland economy.

The project could potentially include 1.8 GW of new wind generation and 600 MW of pumped hydro with 18 h of storage.

These technologies will be able to provide at least 220 MW/d, and excess power for the grid, as well as power the various hydrogen technologies – including 300 MW of hydrogen electrolysers, 50 MW of liquefaction and a 50 MW hydrogen fuel cell – proposed as part of the project. The technologies will also be able to produce 65 t/d of green hydrogen.

Potential Job Creation
The project will create 500 new jobs in the green economy.

Capital Expenditure
A$2-billion.

Planned Start/End Date
The project will generate reliable energy, along with green hydrogen, for the grid from 2028.
