Name and Location
Fertiliser plant project, Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), Lagos, Nigeria.

Client
Dangote Industries.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a fertiliser plant in the LFTZ, about 50 km east of the centre of Lagos.

The plant will occupy 200 ha and will include:
• two 2 200-metric-ton-per-day (MTPD) ammonia plants,
• two 3 850 MTPD urea plants; and
• two 3 850 MTPD urea granulation plants.

The total production capacity of the plant will be about 2.6-million tons a year of granulated urea. Ammonia produced by the associated plants will be fed directly to the urea plants. Should the urea plants not be operational, the ammonia will be fed to a 20 000 t intermediate storage tank for later use in urea production. The plant will be located east of the refinery, which is still in the design phase.

In addition to the fertiliser plant’s primary production facilities, all utilities required for the operations, such as power, air, nitrogen, water supply and effluent treatment, will be provided by on-site facilities, also to be constructed as part of the broader plant development.

Natural gas required for production activities and the power plant will be supplied by a new gas pipeline yet to be built. Its location is yet to be confirmed; however, it is currently envisaged to be about 50 km in length and it will link into an existing trunk gas line operated by the Nigerian Gas Company. The gas itself will be provided by a private supplier and Dangote is in discussions with respective companies on this issue.

Value
The project is estimated at $11-billion.
