As lockdown is enforced in an effort to curb the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), event organisers nationwide have heeded the call and either postponed or cancelled their events to reduce the risk of further infections.

As part of the annual calendar, the Factory of The Year (FoTY) competition that culminates in an awards ceremony held at the Manufacturing Indaba every year will also be postponed to a later date in the year.

According to Igor Hulak, partner at Kearney, the FoTY planning committee made the decision to postpone the awards ceremony and to extend the submission window for entries to ensure that the health and safety of its participants is prioritised.

Hulak says that “the safety of the speakers and participants at both events are the main priority and it is essential that everyone takes the necessary precautions to mitigate the spread of the virus in South Africa”.

As a result of the decision to postpone the awards ceremony, the FoTY planning committee has decided to extend the submission window for entries to 30 June 2020. The planning committee will continue to evaluate the situation to determine if a further postponement is required.

A new date for the awards ceremony for Factory of the Year will be confirmed in due course.
