Project Description
CIC Energy Corp is developing four projects at its Mmamabula coalfield. The coalfield comprises an exploration licence and a retention licence. The global mineral resource estimate for the project totals about 2.4-billion tons in the measured and indicated categories. CIC Energy’s export coal project intends to export seaborne traded steam coal from the M2 (lower) and D1 coal seams of its Mmamabula coalfield. Feasibility studies on the mines, the washing plants, rail, the coal terminal and port were completed in 2009 and the mining updates are done on a periodic basis.
The 1 500 km Trans Kalahari Rail line is proposed to be constructed by a transportation consortium to a port in Namibia.

The export mines will take around three years to construct to first major production, followed by a production ramp-up period. The railway line will take three to four years to construct.
Latest Developments
The government of Botswana announced its Coal Sector Development Plan and its intention to make a decision this year on a rail line to export coal for completion in 2016/17.
