Name and Location
Esso pipeline replacement project, Victoria, Australia.

Client
Esso Australia Resources, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Australia, and the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture.

Each party has a 50% interest in the project, with Esso Australia acting as the operator.

Project Description
The project entails the installation of a replacement pipeline to transport crude oil and condensate between Esso Australia’s Longford gas-processing and crude oil stabilisation plants, in Gippsland, to its Long Island Point plant, near Hastings, in Victoria.

The new 187 km, 350-mm-diameter pipeline will replace the existing 700 mm pipeline.

The replacement pipeline will be built adjacent to the existing pipeline between these locations and, whenever possible, within the existing easements held by Esso Australia, which are set aside for its current crude oil and condensate and liquefied petroleum gas pipelines, thus minimising the need to acquire or disturb additional land.

The existing crude/condensate pipeline will continue to operate until the replacement pipeline has been built and is ready for operation.

Value
A$400-million.

The project has received full project funding from Esso Australia Resources and Gippsland Basin Joint Venture partner BHP Billiton.

Duration
Pending regulatory approval, the construction of the replacement pipeline is expected to begin in late 2015.
