Eskom has announced that it would implement staggered load-shedding on Friday due to increased electricity demand.

Easkom had earlier said there would be no load-shedding on Friday morning, but in a later statement the power utility announced that it would be implementing stage 1 and stage 2 load-shedding.

“The power system was constrained but stable for most of the first half of the day today, thus enabling Eskom to perform maintenance without the need for load-shedding,” it said.

“However, due to increased electricity demand and a shortage of generation capacity due to power station units being on maintenance, Eskom will implement stage 1 load-shedding from 12:00 to 17:00 today. Stage 2 load-shedding will, thereafter, be implemented from 17:00 this afternoon and is likely to continue until 22:00 this evening.”
