PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Uranium miner Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) on Thursday unveiled a A$220-million brine concentrator facility that would assist the company in reducing its process water inventories.

The plant, with the capacity to produce 1.83-billion litres of clean distilled water a year, would also play an integral part in the rehabilitation of the Ranger uranium mine, in the Northern Territory.

“We have listened to the concerns of the Mirarr and other key stakeholders and the opening of the brine concentrator marks a very significant step forward in demonstrating our ability to treat large quantities of water effectively,” said ERA CEO Rob Atkinson.

The brine concentrator is one of a number of key strategic initiatives progressing on schedule, and within budget at Ranger, which also include the Ranger 3 Deeps exploration decline, underground mining feasibility studies and the progressive rehabilitation and backfilling of the recently completed Pit 3 opencut mine.
