Endeavour starts underground mining at Segala
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed gold major Endeavour Mining has started production at its Segala underground operation, which forms part of the Tabakoto gold mine, in Mali.
“Segala provides the Tabakoto plant with another source of higher grade ore. Add to that the start of owner mining at the Tabakoto underground mine, and we are well on the way to finishing the production improvement programme that we set in motion a year ago when we doubled the plant capacity,” said Endeavour CEO Neil Woodyer.
The ASX- and TSX-listed gold miner was hauling ore from the Segala mine to a run-of-mine pad, after which it is transported to the Tabakoto plant some 5 km away. Ore is processed through a 4 000 t/d plant and gold is recovered through a standard, gravity, carbon-in-leach process.
Segala represents around half of the mineral resources for the Tabakoto mine.
Woodyer pointed out on Thursday that the company had also received a mining permit for the Kofi Nord property, which covers all eight of the known deposits on the Kofi property, including the Kofi C deposit, which would now be incorporated into the Tabakoto production schedule for 2015.
The Kofi C deposit adds 1.55-million tonnes, at 4.26 g/t gold for 213 000 oz of probable mineral reserve to the Tabakoto project, and opened an opportunity for Endeavour to incorporate the other deposits into the production schedule.
A 38 km haul road was planned, and production at Kofi C was scheduled for early 2015. The company would incur a total capital expenditure of some A$13-million in early 2015, but this could be brought forward to the end of 2014.
