Name of the Project
Drayton South coal expansion project.

Location
Hunter Valley, in New South Wales, Australia.

Client
Anglo American Coal.

Project Description
The Drayton mine is in the final stages of coal extraction. The project entails a 15-year mine life extension of the existing Drayton opencut coal mine.

The area within the project boundary is referred to as the Drayton Complex and includes the existing Drayton mine, the Drayton South coal project area and the transport corridor.

The project will provide access to 73.5-million tonnes of coal resources to produce a standard Newcastle export thermal (also known as steaming) coal product.

The project will mine up to 6.4-million tonnes a year of run-of-mine coal using excavator and dragline mining methods. Existing Drayton mine assets and infrastructure will be used to operate the mine and process the coal for sale.

The project will use the existing Drayton mine infrastructure, including:
• the coal handling and preparation plant, rail loop and associated infrastructure, workshops, bath houses and administration offices; and
• continued use of the Antiene rail spur off the Main Northern railway line to transport product coal to the Port of Newcastle for export.

The project will build a transport corridor to the new mining area and realign and upgrade a section of Edderton road.

Jobs to be Created
The project will allow for the continuation of employment for the local workforce of up to 500 people.
