PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed miner OceanaGold has declared commercial production at its Didipio mine, in the Philippines, from April 1.

“We are extremely pleased to formally announce the declaration of commercial production at Didipio with an effective date of April 1. This marks the official start to a very important chapter for OceanaGold as we transition into a multinational gold producer,” said MD and CEO Mick Wilkes.

He noted that since construction started in June 2011, the company had worked to deliver on its commitment to shareholders.

“We have successfully progressed from first ore in the mills to commercial production in just over three months, which is a great accomplishment and a testament to the skill of the construction and commissioning teams, resulting in the seamless transition to our equally talented operations team,” Wilkes said.

To date, more than 22 000 t of copper/gold concentrate had been produced at Didipio, and for the full year, the project was expected to produce between 50 000 oz and 70 000 oz of gold and between 15 000 t and 18 000 t of copper.
