Diatreme adds to Cyclone reserves
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diversified junior Diatreme Resources has reported a 47% increase in the ore reserve estimates at its Cyclone mineral sands project, in Western Australia.
The company on Monday reported that the Cyclone project was now estimated to have an ore reserve of 140-million tonnes, at 2.5% heavy minerals, containing 3.5-million tonnes of heavy minerals with one-million tonnes of zircon.
Based on a planned mining rate of ten-million tonnes a year, the reserve increase has resulted in a four-year extension of Cyclone’s mine-life, to 14-years.
“Cyclone continues to gain momentum and these upgrades demonstrate the project’s potential to become a major producer of valuable heavy minerals. By expanding and de-risking the project, we have put it in the best possible position to attract further investment and progress towards delivering cash flow for shareholders’ benefit,” said Diatreme CEO Neil McIntyre.
The project has a mineral resource of some 211-million tonnes, at 2.3% heavy minerals, containing 4.8-million tonnes of heaving minerals, including 1.27-million tonnes of zircon.
The project’s public environmental review was currently undergoing assessment by the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority, which should be completed by February next year.
In the meantime, Diatreme continues to review opportunities to reduce capital expenditure and operating cost estimates for the planned mine, which was now targeting the supply of a single heavy mineral concentrate product to Chinese mineral separation plants.
