Desert Bloom Hydrogen project, Australia
Name of the Project
Desert Bloom Hydrogen project.
Location
Tennant Creek, in Australia’s Northern Territory.
Project Owner/s
Technology developer Aqua Aerem.
Project Description
Desert Bloom is a proposed integrated power, water and hydrogen production facility comprising a series of modular and portable 2 MW hydrogen production units (HPUs) that each generate water, heat, electricity and hydrogen.
Each HPU contains:
- a photovoltaic solar system;
- a concentrated parabolic trough solar thermal heater;
- a water producing unit (WPU); and
- an electrolyser.
At its peak, the project will comprise an estimated 4 000 HPUs, producing about 410 000 t/y of green hydrogen.
Each HPU can operate independently of other HPUs.
The WPU and accompanying electrolyser are containerised solutions enabling them to be manufactured remotely.
The modular nature of the key equipment provides wide flexibility to deal with issues that arise during construction and operations. It also allows for the equipment to be transferred to new locations if necessary.
Aqua Aerem says that this is a major advantage over other large-scale hydrogen projects, which require significant captal investment on support infrastructure for their projects.
