Fochville Extension 11 will be located in the West Rand district municipality, in Gauteng.

Hospital Street will be located in Majuba district municipality, in KwaZulu-Natal.

Germiston Extension 4 will be located in Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality, in Gauteng.

The Kwandokuhle social housing project is located in Govan Mbeki local municipality, in the Gert Sibande district municipality of Mpumalanga.

The Hull Street Phase 1 project is located in Francis Baard district municipality, in the Northern Cape.

The Willow Creek project is located in Ermelo, in the Msukaligwa local municipality of the Gert Sibande district municipality, in Mpumalanga.

Project Description
The Department of Human Settlements plans to build six social housing projects over two years.

The projects include:

  • the proposed Fochville Extension 11 development will comprise 2 198 residential units,
  • out of which 258 will be social housing units (SHU).
  • the Hospital Street project will comprise 53 four-storey building blocks comprising of 1 056 units.
  • Germiston Extension 4 has planned 201 SHUs to accommodate 601 people.
  • The Kwandokuhle social housing project involves the construction of 492 SHUs.
  • Hull Street Phase 1 envisions delivering 600 SHUs in two phases.
  • The Willow Creek project entails the construction of 360 SHUs.

Potential Job Creation
Fochville Extension 11 is expected to create 953 jobs.

Hospital Street is expected to create 3 384 jobs.

Germiston Extension 4 is expected to create 847 jobs.

The Kwandokuhle social housing project is expected to create 1 544 jobs.

The Hull Street Phase 1 project is expected to create 1 152 jobs.

The Willow Creek project is expected to create 1 062 jobs.

Construction on the projects will start in the 2022/23 financial year.

Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane announced the construction projects during a debate on the State of the Nation Address on February 14.
