PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed project house Decmil Group has been awarded an extension of its existing wellsite installation services contract at the Queensland Curtis liquefied natural gas (QCLNG) project.

The extension was worth an initial A$65-million in 2015, the company said on Monday.

The contract would be an extension of the existing framework contract, and would see Decmil move from project phase to operational phase, supporting project operator QGC with wellhead construction, logistics, material management and a range of construction services.

The QCLNG project loaded its first LNG cargo at the end of December.

The project is the world's first LNG project to be supplied by coal seam gas, and owner BG Group said the start of production from the plant's first LNG train was the result of more than four years of development and construction on Curtis Island.

The Queensland Resources Council said at the end of December that the first cargo from QCLNG was a A$600-million boon for essential services in the state, and marked a new chapter in Queensland’s LNG sector.

The project will expand further with the start-up of the second train in the third quarter of 2015. At plateau production, expected during 2016, QCLNG will have an output of around eight-million tonnes a year of LNG.
