JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Botswana diamond miner Debswana Diamond Company on Wednesday announced that its current COO Balisi Bonyongo would take over as MD of the company on January 1.

He would replace current Debswana MD James Gowans, whose tenure was ending on December 31. Gowans was appointed as MD on January 1, 2011, on a three-year contract with a mandate to improve the efficiency of and position Debswana’s operations for continued profitability and growth.

“Significant progress has been accomplished by Gowans to improve the company’s operational performance and skills capacity during his tenure. This has placed Debswana in a strong position from which to implement its long-term resource development plan, which has been recently finalised and approved by the board,” the company said.
