Project Description
The project proposes the construction of a new stretch of highway across the Drakensberg escarpment in the vicinity of the existing De Beers Pass. The 99 km, four-lane highway will link Keeversfontein, or the Tugela toll plaza, in KwaZulu-Natal, with Warden, in the Free State.
The new route will be 15 km shorter, with much flatter and smoother alignment, without the many sharp curves of the existing N3 route. Although the route is part of the N3 Toll Concession, it will not be tolled between Cedra and Heidelburg, and there will be no change to current toll tariffs on the road.
