Crude steel production down 5.9% y/y in June – worldsteel

World crude steel production decreased by 5.9% year-on-year to 158.1-million tons in June, industry body the World Steel Association (worldsteel) reports.

Africa produced 1.2-million tonnes in June – an 18.7% year-on-year decrease, while Asia and Oceania produced 118.8-million tonnes – a 3.1% year-on-year decrease.

The 27 countries in the European Union produced 11.8-million tonnes, down 12.2% year-on-year, while other European countries produced 3.8-million tonnes, which was 10.9% lower year-on-year.

Further, the Middle East produced 3.4-million tonnes, down 5%.

Russia, and other Commonwealth of Independent States, and Ukraine, produced 5.9-million tonnes, down 34.3% year-on-year.

North America produced 9.6-million tonnes, down 2.4% year-on-year and South America 3.7-million tonnes, a 4.9% year-on-year decrease.

Meanwhile, China produced 90.7-million tonnes of steel, down 3.3% and India produced ten-million tonnes, which is 6.3% higher year-on-year.

Japan produced 7.4-million tonnes, down 8.1% year-on-year, and the US 6.9-million tonnes, down 4.2%.
