Crude steel production, capacity utilisation ratio increase y/y in July

Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 154.6-million tonnes in July – a 5.8% year-on-year increase.

China contributed 81.2-million tonnes of crude steel in July, a 7.2% year-on-year increase. Japan produced 8.4-million tonnes, which is down 2% compared with July 2017, and South Korea produced 6.2-million tonnes, which is a 0.1% increase compared with July 2017.

Turkey’s crude steel production was 3.3-million tonnes, down 2.3% compared with July 2017.

Ukraine’s crude steel production was 1.8-million tonnes, up 11.4% compared with July 2017.

The US produced 7.3-million tonnes, which is an increase of 4.5% compared with July 2017.

Brazil produced three-million tonnes, which is a 6.7% increase compared with July 2017.

Egypt’s crude steel output increased by 16.8% year-on-year to 630 000 t, while South Africa’s production increased by 4.5% year-on-year to 535 000 t.

The crude steel capacity utilisation ratio of the 64 countries, in July, was 77.5% – representing a 3.8% year-on-year increase but a 1.4% month-on-month decrease.
