Join a free Wits Journal of Clinical Medicine webinar as experts separate the facts from the fiction.

As South African citizens continue to weather the second wave of Covid-19 and the various restrictions placed upon them by government, the approaching arrival of various vaccines in our country signals the beginning of a critical scientific response to this worldwide pandemic, one that’s aimed at curbing the spread of the virus and returning us to something resembling normalcy.

Sabinet, in partnership with Wits University Press would like to invite members of the media as well as its countrywide userbase to attend a free Wits Journal of Clinical Medicine webinar, sponsored by The Forge, which will serve as a scientific update on the Covid-19 vaccination programme in South Africa.

This webinar is set to take place on Wednesday, 03 February 2021 at 16h00 (SAST) and, as it covers its various topics, should run for around 1.5 hours.

Hosted by Professor Pravin Manga — Editor of the Wits Journal of Clinical Medicine — and supported by a panel of leading experts in the global fight against the Covid-19 pandemic Shabir Madhi, Penny Moore and Charles Feldman, this webinar intends to cut through any misinformation and distortion of facts surrounding the vaccination process. As conspiracy theories continue to spread and distrust of medical science blossoms, it’s up to all of us to seek out strong sources of information as well as reputable and peer-reviewed publications and articles on the subject.

This free webinar will cover the following:

  • How do Covid-19 vaccines work and what types of vaccines are there?

  • Will Covid-19 vaccines provide long-term protection?

  • What is the evidence thus far of their efficacy as well as their efficacy with regard to co-morbidities such as HIV and TB?

  • Further information on South Africa’s Covid-19 Variant (501.V2); and

  • The Ethics of Vaccination.

At Sabinet, we’re firm believers in the sharing of knowledge, and aim to facilitate and ease this process as much as possible through all of the work which we do. For this reason, we’ve partnered once again with the Wits Journal of Clinical Medicine — with a view to keeping as many South Africans as possible informed.
