South African private-sector airline Airlink has announced that Skukuza Airport in the Kruger National Park has been closed and will remain closed until January 28. This was due to an outbreak of Covid-19 at the Lower Sabie Rest Camp.

“In order to protect our customers, crews and personnel from exposure to the virus, we have decided to halt all operations at the Skukuza Airport until the 28th January 2021,” stated airline MD and CEO Rodger Foster. “We apologise to ticketholders for any inconvenience this might cause.”

Airlink normally operates one flight each way between Johannesburg and Skukuza, on a daily basis. They are flights 4Z865 (to Skukuza) and 4Z866 (returning to Johannesburg).

Customers should consult the airline’s website or their travel agents, for help with refunds or changing their bookings. Airlink’s flight schedule is also available on its website.

The airline continues to operate services to other airports close to the Kruger National Park and other resorts and camps in the area. These are Hoedspruit Airport and Nelspruit’s Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.

Airlink is the busiest airline in Southern Africa and, according to the Airports Company South Africa, was the most punctual South African airline during last year, with an on-time performance of more than 95%. The airline’s symbol is the Sunbird and it has begun to repaint its aircraft in its colourful new livery.
