JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Condor Blanco Mines has fast-tracked its Marianas iron tailings project, in Chile, deploying a mobile processing plant to the site.

With the bulk sample to be completed shortly, and the permitting under way to allow for processing of up to 30 000 t/m of concentrate, Condor said on Thursday that it had taken the opportunity to immediately start production using the mobile plant.

The plant would have both wet and dry processing capabilities and would run up to 150 t/h using wet separation to produce a high-grade product of between 65% and 70% iron, as well as hematite and magnetite product.

With the processing expected to start immediately, Condor was hoping to process some 5 000 t/m and stockpile for sale.

“This is an absolutely huge milestone for the company. Following on from the bulk sample, we’ve fast-tracked production of the project by immediately starting processing on site. With permitting under way already, this is an excellent way to generate immediate cash flow and will also save substantially on logistics costs due to the site processing, a premium grade would also improve the probability of the company,” said MD Glen Darby.

Once the mining permit was approved, Condor Blanco would increase production, with the profits from operations allowing the company to pursue exploration of its copper and gold projects.

“It's very rare for a small-scale company to move into production this quickly. Condor has achieved what many companies aim to achieve in a very small timeframe. 2014 is going to be a very exciting year for the company and shareholders alike,” said Darby.
