Specialised oil and gas equipment supplier Energas Technologies aims to meet the increasing demand for operational quality in the local natural gas market through its RMG 5020 gas pressure regulator from Honeywell by end of this month.
Energas Technologies product engineer Laetitia Botha explains that, for the natural gas industry, it is imperative for pilot-operated gas regulators to provide reliable performance in applications ranging from gas distribution systems to gas-fired power plants and processing facilities, as well as commercial and industrial gas services.
Energas Technologies employs Honeywell’s RMG 5020 gas pressure regulator as a solution for gas-pressure reduction in municipal distribution, gas transmission and industrial plant applications.
It also features external pilot operation for accurate and safe control of outlet pressure and represents the benchmark for dependable performance in this sector. The solution can also be used in commercial and industrial gas services.
Botha adds that the RMG 5020 improves on existing technologies with its precision grid plate design, versatile flow options and wide operational pressure range. The regulator also features easy in-line service and maintenance capability.
“With this technology, designed for longevity, users [enjoy] a range of benefits, which include a small number of moving parts, high sensitivity to handle flow variation and good accuracy to control required outlet pressure, as well as low maintenance and low differential pressure requirements,” she says.
An additional advantage of the RMG 5020 is its usefulness in maintaining a precisely reduced outlet pressure while ensuring the necessary flow to meet downstream demand. It can, therefore, deliver smooth operation and tight shut-off.
“Its ruggedness really contributes to overall efficiency and the bottom line, with a reduction in total cost of ownership, as well as impressive working efficiency . . . meeting individual operational requirements and improving reliability under all conditions,” remarks Botha.
She adds that these advantages are underpinned by low cost, improved uptime and reduced risk.
To keep costs to a minimum, the RMG 5020 is designed to reduce maintenance and repair costs. It is specifically configured for convenient in-line service, keeping long-term ownership costs low.
The solution’s design means that failures are very rare and routine instrument repairs are easy to perform when necessary, Botha notes. Subsequently, unexpected shutdowns or operational interruptions on site, owing to device malfunctions, are unlikely, she says. Through Energas Technologies, Honeywell experts and certified technicians work alongside customers on all facets of product and application planning for gas pressure installations, assisting with start-up, commissioning, on-site technical support and dependable spare parts assistance.
To maintain stable gas regulation, the RMG 5020 has been engineered for precise regulating accuracy, even at low flow and during start-up phase; its precise slotted grid plate design reduces noise. The solution is available with reduced flow options.
Meanwhile, Botha points out, the top-entry configuration is convenient, as it reduces maintenance requirements, with the compact size of the regulator saving space.
The pilot filter is completely premounted, making installation easy, while the reduced number of internal parts ensures quiet operation.
Botha says: “With its optimised flow characteristics, the regulator boasts up to 38% higher capacity compared with the best alternative technology on the market.” This feature allows for the downsizing of the regulator and low differential pressure equipment.
Compared with similar products, Botha says, the regulator is also less affected by extreme operational temperatures as the integral pilot provides reliability under all conditions, such as inlet pressure of up to 100 bar and outlet pressure of up to 40 bar.
Energas Technologies asserts that it is part of the company’s mandate to deliver only best-in-class products to clients operating in this competitive industry.
“For this reason, we go to great lengths to ensure that the products we supply to market are the best quality and underpinned by top-notch professional support. “With the Honeywell RMG 5020, we have the best of both worlds and are delighted to pass this reliable package on to the Southern Africa gas sector,” concludes Botha.
