Powertech Transformers, a subsidiary of Powertech and the JSE listed Altron Group recently received an order for several 800kVA 11600/420V miniature substations worth R1.9 million. This order forms part of the three year contract awarded by City of Cape Town which PTT received the bulk due to their impeccable track record with City of Cape Town over a couple of decades. Powertech Transformers has supplied the City of Cape Town Power as well as Distribution Transformers and Miniature Substations for many years. The company was the first manufacturer to comply with the Council’s stringent low loss requirements for Distribution Transformers and Miniature Substations. PTT’s Cape Town factory has been supplying distribution transformers fully short circuit tested since the late 1990’s.
Powertech Transformers has a MERSETA accredited training facility in its Cape Town premises. This is currently the only training facility in South Africa accredited to provide skills training against eleven (11) registered national unit standards in the disciplines linked to and embodied in transformer manufacturing including welding. Generic skills such as core stacking, HV winding, LV winding and transformer assembly are also offered. PTT supplies a full range of transformers, from generator step-up to transmission and distribution transformers in their three factories. The range includes three-phase and single-phase units, auto-transformers, arc-furnace, locomotive and traction transformers, miniature sub-stations, NECRT’s as well as LNER’s and shunt reactors.
