PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Commissioning of the process plant at the Lake Way sulphate of potash (SOP) project has started, in Western Australia.

ASX-listed Salt Lake Potash on Monday said that over the coming weeks, the utilities, conversion circuit, flotation circuit, crystallisers and dryer would all be commissioned ahead of full load commissioning and SOP production in the June quarter.

“Commencing commissioning of Australia’s first SOP processing plant is a major milestone for Salt Lake and testament to the hard work of our owner’s team and GR Engineering Services,” said CEO Tony Swiericzuk.

“It is exciting to see the vision that was first conceived in late 2018 come to fruition less than two and a half years later. First SOP sales and revenue are now well within sight,” he added.

Lake Way is expected to produce 245 000 t/y of SOP over a mine life of 20 years, based on the high grade probable ore reserve of 5.4-million tonnes SOP.
