Retail motor company Combined Motor Holdings (CMH) on Monday announced the appointment of former lead independent nonexecutive director John Edwards as chairperson.

Edwards was succeeding outgoing chairperson Maldwyn Zimmerman, who announced on July 19 that he would stand down to enable him to dedicate more time to personal and family interests. Zimmerman would, however, remain a director of the company.

Zimmerman had been chairperson of the group since its inception in 1976.

Since its listing on the JSE in 1987, CMH’s revenue had grown from R220-million to R10-billion, and its attributable income from R4-million to R157-million last year.

Edwards stated that he was looking forward to the challenge of continuing this trend during the years ahead.

Edwards was first appointed to CMH’s board in 2002, after which he was appointed chairperson of the audit and risk assessment committee, a position he held until May 2011. He also served as chairperson of the remuneration committee from 2011 to 2013.
